No father's name on a marriage cert usually means illegitimate

BUT....the PR shows a name, so it should have been on the cert

Was looking at that yesterday Mel. There is this in the papers which pertains to a similar case.

"........Alexander Mitchell, principal officer on board the Port Mahon convict ship, deposed that the two prisoners, Buckley and Andrews, were brought on board the vessel; on being asked their names, Buckley gave his as Simmons, and Andrews that of Ward. On the following morning, Buckley said that he had given a false name, to save his brother, a respectable tradesman....."

This was a huge trial reported in several papers as it was classed as treason to make and circulate counterfeit coin.
Daniel Buckley and Jeremiah Andrews were found guilty. Mary Ann, Daniel's wife and Daniel Pycroft, his brother in law, were found not guilty. Mary Ann Patrick got 6 months hard labour.
Daniel Buckley gave his name as Thomas Simmons. He and Jeremiah were both hanged.
