The Burkes mention of James Ashworth's marriage is likely to be all there is. Any parish record may not have survived.

For our reference:
I see from the image on Ancestry that he was the second son of Henry Ashworth of Wolfenden, Rossendale and Isabella Brooke.

Thanks both. Just wishful thinking on my part. Trying to get back from .....

Baptism: 8 Feb 1685/6 St Peter, Bolton, Lancashire, England
Alice Ashworth - Daughter of James Ashworth & Margaret
Born: 2 Feb 1685/6
Abode: Turton
Source: Rev. Canon Powell Transcripts

And found this, again on Burke's, but can't find a marriage for James Ashworth to Margaret Greenhalgh either

Name
James Ashworth
Spouse
Margaret Greenhalgh
Mother
Isabella Brooke
Father
Henry Ashworth
Marriage
12/12/1676
Residence
Great Oak, Turton, Lancashire

Thanks again, at least that's another one eliminated.

No, it doesn't look anything like Brooke.

I have to say that my initial thoughts was that the surname began with an O but there is a Bap for Isabell Waynwright in 1629 father Thomas.

I'm also of the opinion that the surname for Henry is Ashcroft not Ashworth.

I'm afraid I don't think the surname for Isabel is Brooke though.

Do either of you think Isabella's surname could be read as Brooke??

Found this on Ancestry....mentions a son James (married to a Margaret Greenhalgh) who may be my direct ancestor.

Henry Ashworth
in the Burke’s Family Records (Indexed)

Name: Henry Ashworth
Gender: Male
Residence Place: Wolfenden, Rossendale
Spouse: Isabella Brooke
Father: Robert Ashworth
Mother: Margaret Ashworth
Children: James Ashworth
John Ashworth
George Ashworth

I take so long to type now that I only saw up to the added bit on ArgyllGran's post before replying. Thanks for the additional info ArgyllGran & LondonBelle.

Those sites are very helpful. Thank you greyghost.

ArgyllGran, how on earth have you managed to make any of the words out? I can see numbers, but the words are as clear as mud to me. Thank you so much.

Agreed - see the edits to my post above.

I'm wondering whether the wife's first name is 'Issabellam' ie Isabell. I'm thinking that the first letter that looks like a J is an I and that the second letter that looks like a P is the old fashioned way of writing a double S.

The page heading is :
Wedinges Anno Dom 1653

Februarius 1653

Henricus Ashworth & J [Pabell ?] or [Armienst ? ] , published in the Parish [written as p'ish] ] Church of Ormskirk, Januarius 29 and 5 & 12th of Februarius, married the [written as "ye" ] 16th of Februarii before Mr Jeremiah Aspinwall [Esq ?] and others.

ADDED:
Ashworth could perhaps be Ashcroft. [ A*croft ]
I've edited a few other words of my original "translation" above.

ADDED MORE:

Also found someone else's attempt at it:

Marriage: 16 Feb 1653/4 St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk, Lancashire, England
Henrie Ascroft -
Isabell Wainrit? -
Banns Read: 29 Jan 1653/4, 2nd: 5 Feb 1653/4, 3rd: 12 Feb 1653/4
Married by Banns
Notes: [Bride’s surname unclear] Before Mr Jeremiah Aspinwall and others
Register: Marriages 1653 - 1679, Page 109, Entry 2
Source: LDS Film 1849663
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Ormskirk/stpeterstpaul/marriages_1653-1679.html

And looking at the original again, the bride's name could well be a version of Isabel Wainwright.
