That looks promising

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 17 May 2020 16:45

As Mary Ellen Fox and George Henry Hunter married in 1897, the iIlegitimate Alice in 1908 can't be Mary's daughter, unless Mary had had a dalliance with another man, hadn't named the father, and had let the registrar assume that Hunter was her maiden name.

I think Alice was possibly illegitimate born after George had died also Mary Ellen was still young enough to marry again but I think it's mostly guess work so I've made a note of everything that's been mentioned just in case some thing else comes up

Thank you for your help
Stay safe

Thank you it could be If it is her looks as though she didn't marry?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 17 May 2020 19:23

If you’d looked on the GRO index, which you’ve been told about a number of times, you’d see a blank for MMN. Therefore the child was illegitimate, and you will never be able to identify her father

I've used this site for years and it's been really good but not any more

Thank you every one else for your help over the years

My sincere apologies, Sylann. I didn't read your post as carefully as I should have, and didn't realise you'd looked at the GRO.

Apology accepted

I know we all get carried away and confused trying to sort things out I'm no different than anyone else but I do try and learn I've been doing my tree for years but it's only this last couple of years I've found out what you can do with GRO so that is my first call

All forgotten now carry on I'd hate to not use Genes as I've said the people on here do a fantastic "job" and help so many people

Thank you Sylvia
