Poe and his English Schoolmaster

The Literary Magazine The Athenaeum dated Oct 19, 1878 pg 496 makes reference to the fact that Revd John Bransby, Poe's schoolmaster at Stoke Newington was a cousin of the eminent surgeon Sir Astley Cooper. I am trying to confirm this statement but have been unable to do so this far.

I have John Bransby baptised 8 Feb 1783 at Wisbeach, Cambridge with his parents being William Bransby and Elizabeth (possibly Reynolds). But have not been able to locate any birth date or parents for William Bransby in FamilySearch or Ancestry.

Sir Astley Paston Cooper born 23 Aug 1768, mother was a Maria Susanna Bransby born 1737 and her father was James Bransby of Shottisham Norfolk born 1708.
Maria had one brother James he was born 1738 and died 1760 .well before John Bransby was born.

I am hoping to arrive at a family connection but have been unsuccessful so far. Does anyone have further details on the Bransby family of Shottisham Norfolk that will confirm the statement in The Athenaeum?

Have you checked out https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_queries/new?locale=en ?

They have a number of transcriptions for a William

It could be that the records you’re looking for either haven’t been transcribed, have a different spelling to that expected, or haven’t survived/are illegible. It’s also possible that the family originated out of the county.

Have you checked whether anyone on GR has the names in a tree?

Only someone connected would be likely to have info without looking for it
