Would the funeral directors have a record?

They would have to have seen the documentation, but would have returned the certificate to their client, so I wouldn't have thought they would know the cause though.

Thank you everyone, I shall contact funeral Directors as I know who they were.

Some 2017 deaths are online on Ancestry site, but no details of volume and page number,so you just might find her listed there, but if you know where she died, the local registrar would be my starting point.

Do you know where she was living .if so you may get a copy of the cert from the local registry office

You could also try looking for an obituary notice in a local paper?

Perhaps the easiest way is to ask that person who knows one more time and explain to them why it is important to you to know the cause of her death

My first thought is that you could contact the undertaker responsible for her funeral?? - They would have to have had a death cert to carry out the funeral.

Do you know who they were?

I am not sure what they would be willing to tell you but if you could prove you are a close relative perhaps they would be willing to give you some information?

If the death was in Scotland (you don't say which country it happened in) you'll be able to find it on Scotlands People, and order a copy of the cert via that site.

Scottish deaths are pretty much up to date - the site shows thousands so far in 2019 .

Do you know the date of death? If not, you could check to see if her Estate went to Probate. https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
It’s more likely to be identifiable if she didn’t have a common set of names.

GRO should be able to identify her death certificate from a name, date & registration district. They’d charge an additional £3 to the standard £11 for a copy.

Samantha you won't find it online, it's too recent. ( the register hasn't been transcribed after 2006/7 )

The British Library (you’ll need to register first)

These are the only complete copies of the full sets of index reference numbers. They’re on microfiche.

if you are near any of these you can search and then order the cert from the GRO as normal

My Nan passed away back in 2017, the only person with her at the time of her passing and will not say what she died of???

I have tried searching for the death certificate Number so I can order it to see for myself but cannot find anything anywhere, it is still to early as only 18 months ago??????
