Marriages, pre Jul 1837, would still have to be witnessed. If you're lucky, one or both may have family surnames. Although you'd have no idea of the relationship, they could be something else to work with.

Beware that, occasionally, one of the names may be what is described as a Professional witness. Often they would be a church official such as a Verger & a dead end as far as FH research is concerned.

Marriages before the introduction of Civil Registration did not record father's name.

You can't get certs for any BMD event before July 1st 1837.

Looking much better now but just to check with you . I understand that I am unable to get a birth certificate for John Yandell born 1802 ( this maybe different once I look into the birth above. I also may not be able to get anymore information from the marriage of this John to Ann Royall about his parents I thought that would be on the marriage parish record at the Records office but seems maybe not.

Is there anyway of finding out who his parents were ?

Hi ErikaH - Yes you can see I have started losing the plot with it at the moment.Sorry Yes James was alive in 1841. I have been searching for a death as the new son James was born in 1849 so I was guessing the son born in 1827 had died before 1849 but haven't found it yet. I think i have so many notes now I keep confusing myself.

BUT - even though you have been given the probable marriage, you won't learn anything more from the Records Office than has been posted.

The 1837 death ISN'TJames - he was alive in 1841 - and that death is for a 69 year old

ErikaH - John and Edward baptisms look the ones as the other children were baptised in St Andrews clifton- brilliant I could not find those when I was searching, that just leaves the first son James born 1827 died 1837 I can't find.

Do you mean where you have put Only baptisms before 1837 that I may not find anything on line. I was thinking I could look at the records for St. Andrews Clifton( in case they married there) at the local records office but not sure if I will be able to find it.

Maddie- that is a thought- I will see what I can follow up. the spellings of Yandell change all the time so as you know make it harder. Thanks.

Hi ErikaH The taunton one isn't the correct one Im afraid. The 1851 is the correct John and Ann with their family.
The other John born 1829 died 1883 is their son John so the right family.

ONLY baptisms can be found before 1st July 1837, when Civil Registration started
