I think it is possibly a different Catherine.

Possible remarriage for William (the William that married Catherine Findley)?

Name William Platt (engine Driver) widower
Birth Year abt 1828
Marriage Date 6 Nov 1864
Parish Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George
Father's Name Thomas Matthew Platt (Millwright)

Emma, I think you need to say how you worked back to William and Catherine.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Feb 2019 18:05

Emma -

What are you absolutely sure of?

How have you worked back to this family?

I don't understand your last post.
You had already told us that you thought her name was Findley - and you knew about the marriage - so why are you saying "I suppose . . . . that's where the name Findley has come from" ??

Emma Report 23 Feb 2019 18:08

I’m asking on behalf of a friend from what I can gather it was because of the censuses - ie William Platt b 1866 stoke On trent is this ladys link to

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Feb 2019 18:34

How did your friend get back to William? Is she descended from one of his children?
If so, which one?

We need some definite facts/documentation to base a search on.

greyghost Report 23 Feb 2019 18:52

Emma, there are 3 William Platt/s birth registrations in Stoke on Trent Reg. District 1866 +/- 2 years. And as said before, there was no penalty for not registering then.

Age on census can't be taken for certain unless proved by birth reg. i.e. 1881 census says age 15, simple Maths says born 1866. More likely to have been 1865 as census was early part of the year.

What facts is your friend certain of and has proved as I asked earlier. How has your friend got back to William 1866?

I agree with the children's births, AQ.

In fact, I meant to post them earlier, but don't seem to have done so!
