We have just bought an old letter dated 1770 from a person called James Pobjoy to a Miss Mollie Perry - I have added a link to copies of the contents. Wouldn't it be great if we could find descendant of James and let them know of the assistance of the letter

I have been able to read most of the letter and it is fascinating

Have you started looking for info?

In 'search all member trees' for instance?

It may be a descendant who sold the letter..............

Hi yes that is the only info I can find, in the letter he says he travelled to Bath and back to Frome, there are people on her that are linked to James Pobjoy, if the letter was sent Mollie I assume it was in her possession and not his and the front of the letter says miss perry so I assume she is Miss Mollie Perry living in Bath, but the letter is so early she may have married or died by the time of the census

But the letter is nice to look at anyway isn't it!

A few POBJOYs from Frome mentioned here

http://www.gomezsmart.myzen.co.uk/families/pjbranch.htm

The National Archives site mentions the Will of a James Pobjoy.
It would be interesting to compare the writing and hopefully establish whether or not it was letter-writer James.

I cannot make out in the letter if James is advising Mollie or pursuing her, either way it is a lovely piece of history
