beanie Report 21 May 2018 04:46

Hi, I left this in the air a few years ago and now have a bit more time on my hands. I was wondering if anybody has sussed out the trail from the Spencer's of Coventry (my Great Grandma was Harriet Spencer (born 1876) who married John Haycock - presumably in Coventry. Big gaps on my family tree...I think the following is incorrect:

1. The father of Harriet Spencer is suspected to be Thomas Spencer? Born 1852 who married a Hannah? Surname unknown.

2. Thomas Spencer's Father is suspected to be also called Thomas Spencer, born 1825 who married Mary Ann Holmes.

3. Thomas Spencer born 1825, is suspected to have a father also called Thomas Spencer born in 1795 - not sure who he married.

I suspect that these three points are wrong but if anybody can shine a light on it and help me with getting the generations right, i'd be very grateful.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Ben.

Well, I certainly haven't read through it all but on first glance this site seems to link up the Coventry Spencers to Althorpe.

I have a feeling you will have to plod through many pages to sort out just how though.

Have to go out soon but will read through it later.

Hello lovely people!

I am incredibly moved how you have been so kind and jumped in and bought my family back to life in your own little ways, I can picture those places in Coventry as I know them (Draper's Field, Stoney Stanton Road, Dorset Road) and their trades! Samuel is also one of my favourite names so it's nice to know we have one of those too!

I'm struggling a touch with putting this together and understanding whether there is any confusion or whether kind contributors are at a consensus so far?

Dates are a nightmare for me because of my mathematical dyslexia (it sort of doesn't fit very easily in my head). This is confused by the possibility of more than one Thomas, would anybody be kind enough to help me dissect all of this in a way that it can be added on to the family tree for the benefit of others please? If I can be of any use in return, to you, please let me know.

I will have a looksy at the link re Spencers (Coventry ) to Spencer's (Althorpe) too! I have a rough idea but i'd love to clarify it with people who know how to describe these connections (such as "removed", "Direct Descendants" "Indirect Descendants" etc :-)

Thanks so much, once again,

Ben x

Sorry, this makes total sense now! Just gone through it slowly adding everything to the family tree. It would be great if we could go back further but I guess this is going to be somewhat difficult due to the need for parish records....

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Ben.

I also read through the Bridges Group website - rather fascinating but what this sadly doesn't do is give the family details - siblings, fathers, mother's dates etc.

beanie

beanie Report 21 May 2018 16:22

I have a funny feeling that we need another two or three generations at most before the tree joins up with the official Althorpe Tree....

beanie

beanie Report 21 May 2018 18:16

Thoroughly stuck as is Dorothy who is the only other person that appears to have traveled this line, I have got as far as George Spencer married Ann Eaves on 23 January 1815 at St Michael's (Now Coventry Cathedral). As I say, I suspect, with the timing of the building of Althorp and the business connections between Coventry and Wormleighton through Sir John Spencer (shortly before Althorp was renovating whilst he was staying in Ladbrook) that the connecting person on the Althorp tree is likely to go back two generations, three at the most. So, if there are any details of parents and Grandparents and siblings at each stage, that would be awesome and I'd be most grateful.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Benjamin-Elijah.

beanie Report 21 May 2018 21:49

Please could someone either prove or disprove the following theory:

George Spencer
England, Warwickshire, Parish Registers, 1535-1984

christening: 27 October 1797 Southam, Warwickshire, England
father: John Spencer (Sir John?)
mother: Frances Spencer

Married: Ann Eaves in Coventry on 23 January 1815.

This likely means that John is one of the Sir John's but we need to clarify it - don't forget the Aristocratic Spencer's were knocking about just before Althorpe was developed not so far from Southam and Southam is likely to be a district registry, at least at that time.

Thanks :)
