Re the 1861 Stranraer census record posted by safc -

I don't think that's the right family, but, just in case -
Ancestry's transcription is different.
For a few credits, you can see the image of the original document on SP, to check details:

Mary Martin Wilson
in the 1861 Scotland Census
Name: Mary Martin Wilson
Age: 70
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1791
Relationship: Mother
Gender: Female
Where born: Leswalt, Wigtownshire
Registration Number: 899
Registration district: Stranraer
Civil Parish: Leswalt
Town: Stranraer
County: Wigtownshire
Address: 13 Sheuchan St
ED: 8
Household schedule number: 66
LINE: 10
Roll: CSSCT1861_149
Household Members:
Name Age
Mary Wilson 28
Mary Martin Wilson 70
John Campbell 9
Mary C Martin 7
Samuel J C Kirkpatrick 22

In 1871 there's another Mary Martin Wilson, aged 6 wks, in Wigtown.

However, from the scant details you have, Deborah, it sounds as if your Mary was probably born in Ireland.

I was told she was born 8th February 1855. The name is right and the area is right, but I would have expected to see the Mothers name as Campbell or Sterritt ( also spelt Sterret).

What has thrown me over this paticular child is where did the Martin come from, but from a previous post there was a Mother with the name Martin mentioned.

I am wondering now if she was adopted, or maybe there was a second marriage.

Havnt found any censuses, William was born in Ireland and Margaret in Scotland, they married in Scotland.

The information I have been given is just what was passed down through the family from asking questions. Thats why its so vague.

A cousin who is researching the family gave me the information about Mary Martin Campbell.

I do know and have proven that they had a daughter Margaret Campbell, she was born in 1842, and is my Great Great Grandmother, she married my Great Great Grandfather John Lynn on 30th June 1865 in County Antrim, Belfast. I have a copy of the marriage certificate.

I cant find them on any censuses.

Have you found any of the rest of the family on censuses?
Where did they live? Ireland or Scotland?
Where were their other children born, and when?

Where have you found mention of Mary?

I am looking for details of one of the children of William Campbell B.12 June 1814.
D.20 Aug 1884 and Margaret Campbell nee Sterrett 1816-1879

William born Northern Ireland, Margaret born Scotland.

Married 12 Sep 1835, Kilwinning, Ayr, Scotland.

Both died in Northern Ireland.

I know they had a lot of children but the one I am trying to get information for I am told was born 8th February 1855. Date of death unknown.

Her name was Mary Martin Campbell.

Have tried Irish Genealogy, Ancestry, your site, and Scottish and Irish census records, but cant find anything on her.

Just a census record would be helpful.
