1900 unpaid domestic duties married
The 1939 Register showed the date of birth, but obviously whoever filled out the form for the hospital did not know her actual date of birth, other than the year.
The image of the Register will actually show the following, ie a das mark in each of the two columns where date and month in numerals should have been entered ...

Every married woman who did not have a job was described in the occupation column as "unpaid domestic duties"
So it shows she was married, born in 1900, and was a normal housewife :unpaid domestic duties"!

The 1939 gives Birthdates...but for Ethel, and all on page, NK for Date, and 00 for year, so a year out (but not all are precise on this Register!)

Have you checked 'Search All Member Trees' (top right of page here, under 'Search') in case any other Members are sharing names they might perhaps have photographs relating to family, Weddings etc.)

Thank you Chris Ho, I am not sure where the family were after 1911, I presume as Ethel would have been 11 in 1911 then possibly they did stay in the area? wonder if she attended schools in that area - but not sure how to find that out.
Also not sure how to look for newspaper articles with possible reference to the beauty queen photo?
On the 1939 register not sure why 1900 female domestic duties unpaid married is showing? Its the 1900 as she would have been less than one year old in that year?
Sorry for all these questions but all the help is greatly appreciated.

The 1939 Register is one of the most important twentieth century genealogical resources for England and Wales. The 1931 census was destroyed by fire. No census was taken in 1941 because of the war. So the 1939 register is the only national census-like resource available for this period.
Once war became inevitable the British Government knew they had to issue National Identity cards. They planned for the wide-scale mobilisation of the population and the eventual introduction of rationing. The most recent census was now almost a decade old, so more up-to-date statistics were needed. Some preparations had already begun for the 1941 census, so the Government capitalised on this to take a register of the civilian population. They issued Identity cards immediately afterwards (which were used until 1952).
The Government constantly updated and changed the 1939 Register over time to take account of changes of address or deaths. When they introduced rationing in 1941, they planned it with information from the 1939 Register. The 1939 Register eventually formed the basis of the NHS registration system.

Slightly different details from your post on this thread:
Tracing information on my grandma Ethel Winifred Rogers, have been given some but checking to see if anyone else can help. She worked in the munitions factory in Newport during the first world war and was crowned the factory beauty queen, there was a picture taken of her with other workers but have been unable to trace anything, I understand a local newspaper took pictures and so a picture must be somewhere!! She married in 1920 and moved to live in chepstow, her married name Hobbs. :

Also for the paper cutting on the man who drowned who lived in the hostel at Bulwark.
SylviaInCanada thank you for your reply. I did google my grandma but with no success. Her name was Ethel Rogers before she married and my aunt (aged 96) told my mum that her mum Ethel was on a framed photo in the house of her time as the beauty queen so presumed it was when she was married.
I thought if I could find where she was given the title of beauty queen I could maybe find something in a local paper as presume it would have been photographed?
My grandma was born in September 1899 in Newport Workhouse to Laura Rogers. Sadly in 1932 she was admitted into abergavenny asylum wth what we now know to be post natal depression, this was after her fifth child and my father was the fourth child and aged 4 when all the children were told that their mother had died when in fact she had not! This is a really sad as apparently she was alive and did not pass away until 11th April 1980 (which was the exact date of my father and mother's 30th wedding anniversary ironically) I therefore have no photos to see which is also very sad, I thought if I could find the beauty queen one it would be lovely to have and see.

Have you tried googling your grandmother's name, possibly with beauty queen, Wales?
I think it would have happened before she married, so the date could range from when she was about 14 to her marriage.

Hello I wonder if anyone could assist please?
I understand my paternal grandma whom I never knew won a beauty queen pageant in the area she lived in Chepstow, Wales.
She lived at what was called Hostel No 1, Bulwark (this is on her marriage certificate in 1920) I have been advised by gwent archives, that this could have been where the owners of the shipyard the Monmouth Shipbuilding Company built some properties as there was a lack of housing after the first world war. Wondering if my grandma worked there and that could be where she was the beauty queen, any help much appreciated? Here husband George Hobbs worked at the shipyard. My grandmas name was Ethel Hobbs (nee Rogers)
