Thank you all for info unfortunately I do not think I will find the grave. Dudley archives only have burial 'stub', from 1873 Philip was buried in 1842

Have you tried the local town Council Offices as ours has a complete list of burials for both the churches and the cemeteries. Good luck with your search

Wonder if any family history group local to the area could have recorded the MIs (monumental inscriptions)

Everything gets higgeldy piggeldy in old churchyards.
Markers, if they ever existed, get lost. Other bodies get buried in the same plot. ‘New’ internment’s are juxtaposition with ‘old’ ones so you can’t even follow a chronological pattern.
If anyone can identify the place, it’ll be on the church records if they (still) exist.

1287 would be the entry number on the Parish or Council Cemetery burial register......unless you’re referring to the number shown on his DC? That’s entirely different & refers to the entry in the Registrars book.

If he’s been buried in a Council cemetery, they’d be able to give you the plot number.
Otherwise you’d need to contact the church associated with the graveyard. They may, or may not, have records indicating exactly where he was buried.

Although you’re aware that he may not have a headstone, it’s always possible that the plot has been reused. That’s quite usual when a plot has been hired for a number of years rather than purchased outright.
