Hi, I have been researching my Gt Grandmother on and off for a few years now! She was born in Shoreditch, London in 1858 - 1933. She was one of 7 Children born to Jesse Allen a shoemaker & Mary Ann ( Field) ?

She is quite an elusive lady. I found her on the 1861 Census with 2 of her siblings, her parents spelling of their first name differs but that was normal I think in those days.

I cannot find her on any other census until 1881 living at 14 Laburnum St. Shoreditch, when she states she is a married lady to my Gt Grandad Charles Chapman 1853 - 1903.

I can find no trace of a Marriage Certificate either. So if they didn't marry was this because one of them was already married....... I know it was hard to divorce in those days for the working class.

I know this is a long shot but hopefully someone can see something i've missed over the years.

Thank you for your help.
