Thanks Chris, I saw these before, but couldn't put it together. A relative has the baptisms and marriage for Annie to Simon Moore Wilton. I believe "William" her admitted father was labelled "labourer" ..not helpful. So Annie could be Susan A ..do you think, if the districts match all admissions..
We think she was pregnant when marrying, so could have lied about her age, saying 21. Presumably then one didn't need father's permission.??

(need details for William from 1883 Marriage)

24 July 1908 - Western Times - Exeter, Devon, England

FOUND DEAD.
...that early on Thursday morning deceased complained that he did not feel well, but afterwards appeared to be all right. Simon M. Wilton, a fellow lodger, gave deceased a bottle of spirit, and this he drank. Wilton told the jury that he did not know what the bottle he gave deceased contained, and he did not know where he got it from, as he was drunk the night before. It might have been poison for all he knew.
Another lodger said the bottle contained whisky.
Dr. Scrass who made a post mortem examination said he was able to trace acute alcoholic poisoning. At the request of the jury the Coroner severely censured Wilton, and told him he would probably find himself in a serious position if he was not more careful about what he gave people.

(relating to inquest on Joe Clark, a hawker who was found dead at the Jolly Sailor lodging house.)

Gillikins Report 16 Oct 2017 10:46

The Joseph Wilton burial looks like Simons father, as Simon lived with him on one census, 1891 or 1901 I forget
and Joseph Moore Wilton baptism is Annie Townsend /Wilton child
Marriage cert details I will ask about.. Annie says she was 21 but she could have lied as she was probably pregnant at the time. Marriage date 20th December 1883.
Her father William labourer. Address or both Pipe Well Street, Callington, Cornwall
Simons age 25.
Simon and his father were both born Callington.
Thanks

Gillikins

Gillikins Report 16 Oct 2017 10:31

thank you do much.....I couldn't do this myself..
I can confirm what you have for Leonard Moore Wilton.
Annie's seems to have her age wrong, or lied, as did her daughter Annie. Family trait?
I'm not so sure about the baptism for Annie Townsend ..saw this Meredith myself, but she SAYS her father was William.

This enquiry came after a family visit to my mum in law..this is her family, so she holds some certificates including the Simon Wilton marriage.
She will be amazed, but not surprised, at the extra child.

The summary was most helpful, it was quite hard to follow, so was needed. Thanks everyone! You worked so hard.
