The marriage you've found in 1918 would make him just 17, so maybe a bit of a red herring? Although his bride may have been a war widow, so that was not her birth name - but it seems unlikely unless he preferred older women.

Trouble is, if the shipping records found are actually him (and the address in 1937 appears to confirm this) then you've no idea where to look for marriages or deaths unless he can be further traced through shipping records.

Just a thought Prickles, the occupation of Greaser is normally associated with ships - could he have been in the Merchant or Royal Navy? Like you I don't have ww access, so can't check for him on shipping lists.

This is one i keep putting on the back burner.

I pop him out every now and then, then i give up, and pop him back again! :-|

Before i throw the towel in.......perhaps someone else might be able to find out what happened to him.

Here goes........

William James Porter

The son of James William Porter and Mary Ann Dudley.

According to the 1901 and 1911 census records, it seems William actually preferred his middle name of James.

I am certain this is my James on an incoming passenger list, as he gives the same address as one of his brothers on another passenger list.

So he was still alive in 1937

That is the last i see of him.

I have checked the address of....358 Priory Road, St Deny's, Southampton on the 1939 Register.......but there are no family members living at that address at that time.

I found a marriage for a James Porter.......

Marriages Mar 1918 (>99%)

Porter James Crowfoot Southampton 2c 83

I found 2 births registered for Annie E Crowfoot

She married in 1920........

Not had any luck with a James....William James.... or an Annie E Porter on the 1939 Register.

I don't have access to World Wide records.......so maybe there is something there that i am missing?

Any help........much appreciated.

Thank you.........Prickles. :-)
