Do you have a copy of his MC? Who does he name as his father?

Would this be his birth reg (from the free search on GRO) ?

Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROLLINGS, HERBERT EDMUND -
GRO Reference: 1873 S Quarter in NORWICH Volume 04B Page 152

His mother's maiden name isn't shown which 'suggests' that its the same as his. Its always possible that the data wasn't captured when it was scanned.

We seem to think that his mother never married his biological father.
As safc has shown, Susannah Rollings is the child of his grandmother Maria Rollings. She was probably known as a widow rather than face awkward questions.

If he is a direct relative, it would be worth buying a copy of his BC.

No. he's not a direct relative, just couldn't get my head around it, Now reading it,
it makes sense.
will get that BC.
Thanks All.
