Hello Gray and Margaret
Matthew was a jockey. He wrote several letters to my father from Bulawayo in 1966 (mostly reminiscing about their racing). 63 Charlotte Street is on the 1911 census as his birth home so this is Matthew. I got the impression from the letters that he hadn't been home since 1928. He must have gone back to Africa after 1935. Thank you both. I wonder if his wife went back with him.

Was Matthew a jockey? This person was. He's returning to England from South Africa along with wife whose name I just can't make out, she's 34. They're heading to 63 Charlotte? St., Wallsend.

Thank you also Detective and Greyghost. Would anyone be able to look at the emigration records. I have found one on FMP but don't have a subscription (there are only three entries) - thanks.

Thank you Dea, this is the one. I believe this is the Matthew who left the UK in 1928 bound for South Africa (Cape). If you have emigration records please could you take a look for me. I have looked on Family Search and believe he died in Bulawayo, (Rhodesia) on 23 June 1972. Thanks.

Hello, could someone take a look at the 1911 census for Matthew Taylor born 1909 at Wallsend, Tynemouth, Northumberland. His parents may be Thomas and Elizabeth but this is just guesswork for now.
