Thank you for the further info .....I have found out a little more from the Wooten Bassett site which has quite a comprehensive piece about John and his military history.
But thank you for the further information regarding William and his children, this is one more step to finding out more about this long lost relatives.

I have PM'd you details for the son.

He was living with his mother on the 2002 ER.

On the 2014 ER, he has been living at the same address in Folkstone for 12 years ......so hopefully still living there now.

Hi Chris thank you for getting back to me so soon regarding William Hird who was a distant cousin of my mother. I think you have answered my main question which was his whereabouts on his death. But I'm also trying to find out if he married and had family? He was the skeleton in our family my Mother his niece didn't even know of his existence, so it would be good to find out as much as possible.....for myself if possible! Many thanks Ruth :-)
