here they are, Andy

I found them by entering no names, birth 1806, Devonport Devon, living Stoke Damerel

I suspect that Richard's wife and children have not been indexed, looking at the record that appeared ...........

Richard Searle 1806 Devonport, Devon, England Occupier (Occupant) Stoke Damerel, Devon

No wife showing

No idea why the entry would not come up based on first names and birth years, because I did try looking for Richard 1806!!

Andrew Report 26 Nov 2016 23:29

Thanks all for the replies. Found her in 1871 as a servant still in Devonport.

As background. She 'might' be my Great grandmother.

I first pick her up in 1875 marrying Philip Kolter in Swansea. Her name is Jane Searl Robinson a widow. She has a child also Philip. Both Philips die very shortly afterwards. She is in 1881 (as Jane Holter) census and remarries in 1885 to George Crews and I have all history. The census from 1881 give her place of birth as Cork, Bristol and Swansea. On both marriage certs I have her father is Richard a Marine Captain. I have never found her any earlier than 1875 so this has to be a possible. Still can't find a marriage to a Robinson. She also seems to acquire a second son Joseph Kolter. The earliest I find him is in 1891 as Joe Kolter in Leicestershire. He jions the army and names his next of kin as Jane Crews mother. Have never found a birth for him either.

Now if I can link this Jane in Devonport. to the info I have........I have asked about this before without result, so please no more research about it.

first, for my reference

KOLTER, PHILIP SEARL
GRO Reference: 1876 M Quarter in SWANSEA Volume 11A Page 776

IF Joseph was born in 1874 (as per 1891 Census), then he was born before her marriage to Philip Kolter.

Could he have been an illegitimate child, fathered or accepted by Kolter??

I do see him on two ancestry trees as Joseph Searle Kolter

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Nov 2016 00:23

I notice that in 1991, Joseph says he was born in Cork, whereas he said Swansea in 1891.

Could your Jane have married Mr Robinson in Ireland, could Joseph have been born there in 1874, and Jane then moved over to Wales where she met and married Philip Kolter?

Could that be the reason why you cannot find a marriage for Jane Searl to Mr Robinson, nor a birth for Joseph?
