They are too early for any census

Have you tried family search site .

Marriages though at that time didn't show fathers names so it would guess work to try and match family

Does anyone know how to trace orphaned children who were 'put out by the parish'?
I have searched in vain for the two surviving children of William Dixie Stanley & his wife Susannah Thompson in Spalding Lincs. Susannah died in 1766 after giving birth to a daughter-also Susannah. William died in 1767. Their son Joseph was baptised in Spalding in 1763 & daughter Joanna was baptised in 1761. I don't know if the baby Susannah survived.
In 1788 the two children (a boy & a girl) were left an inheritance from their cousin -'if they be found'.
How on earth would children aged 6 & 4 possibly survive?
I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this.

Sorry -I mixed the DOB'S of the 2 girls- Susannah was born in 1761 & Joanna in 1766
