05 August 1871 - Norfolk Chronicle - Norwich, Norfolk, England

Thomas Mack, cab-driver, Barn tavern, Barn-road, was summoned for being drunk and incapable of taking care of a horse and carriage, on the 29th ult. Defendant stated that he went to a wedding party, where he received a glass of rum which made him feel quite stupid. He was fined 20s. and costs 11s., his license at the same time being ordered to be endorsed with the conviction.

Thomas Mack cabman, Barn Road, on remand, was again placed in the dock on the charges of assaulting his wife Lydia, and also his father-in-law on 24th March last.
Mrs Mack, who's face presented a frightful appearence, being one mass of bruises, said that on the day in question the prisosoner went home in the afternoon, and after using very bad language towards her, struck her violently in the eye, from the effects of which she bled for about two hours. He afterwards kicked her in the body. She left the house, followed by the prisoner, who took her head and knocked it against the wall. He then threw her down.
Her father, a butcher, named brydges, living in Heigham-Street, who went to her assistance, was kicked in the nose, which was broken.

----For the first offence the bench inflicted the full penalty---namely 6 months imprisonment with hard labour: fourteen days further if the costs were not paid: and for the assault on Mr Brydges, the prisoner was sentenced to 2 months imprisonment with hard labour: and fourteen day further if the costs were not paid in this case also.

In an article, Thomas Mack (cab driver) was charged with assaulting his wife, Lydia and his father in-law Thomas Briggs (butcher)

Is this the same family?

can anyone help me with a newspaper article published in Norwich in April 1869. This concerned Lydia Mack who with her father John Bridges was assallted by Thomas Mack.
This is followed by an article that states John Bridges sued Thomas Mack on the 23 March 1870.
If anyone can fill me in on the full articles I would be very grateful.
