Welcome to the boards Sandra. This looks to be his birth record. Port of Menteith is in the Stirling district.

What information are you looking for?

Surname Forename Gender Year Ref RD NAme
STEER CHARLES G H M 1936 388/ 6 Port Of Menteith

? Married 1959 in the Kinross and Cleish Registration District

Surname Forename Spouse Surname Year Ref Entry Number RD Name
STEER CHARLES G H MELVIN Spouse details 1959 462/ 33 33 Kinross and Cleish

Spouse - Jessie Alice Melvin

You can get the above information from the Scotland's People website for free. It will tell you how you can order the birth and marriage certificates. There is a 100 year privacy rule for births, so you will have to order - before then you can actually look at them and download via the site. (Marriages 75 years and deaths 50 years)

The birth certificate will give you the Father's name and occupation and also the Mother's name including her maiden name. You can then look for their marriage. Unfortunately you can't search Scottish records using the Mother's maiden name to find siblings.

With a bit of luck the parents will be born before 1911 and you can then pick them up on census and work backwards. Otherwise you'll have to get the parents marriage certificate etc.

Thank you Grey Ghost this was his Grandson which i didn't know about. My grandfather died in 1959. I thought having the surname Steer would be easy to trace.
I have his death certificate and marriage certificate which was relating to Devon.
Only got my adoption records after 55 years so i am working forward.

kind regards
Sandra

Can you give all the information from the marriage certificate please, which will help us to help you. We do need some help to start us off instead of having to stab in the dark.

How about this one then - a Sergeant in 1911 in the Army Service Corps

You seem to know a fair bit already - what is it you are wanting help with ?

You've marked your thread as answered - a glitch in the GR system which can't be undone. It meant for using when you have had all you want to know answered, not just an answer to a particular point. You could go in and alter your heading to say ignore tick or similar.

The so-called "British" Postal Service Appointment Books 1757-1969, which are on Ancestry, seem to be almost entirely for England.

There are no results from Wales, and there's only one Scottish result, and it's not him.

EDIT:
I take that back. There are some results, but under specific town name, not "Scotland".
And still not Charles GH Steer.

There's a Charles Steer in north London in 1928, and one in Crediton in 1947, but that's all.
