Hi Chris

Thanks for that address. I've just tried it and was going to order a copy but it says copying service not available due to building works and some records are on ancestry! And, I thought oh what a useful site as I have only just started looking as Gloucestershire.

It is shown she was in prison during that time there is a letter dated 1868 to her father stating her sentence has been looked at but can't be altered at that time

Would doubt you will find her recorded on the census for the time she was in prison

Susan Report 5 Nov 2016 06:30

Born 1829 in Quenington, Gloucester and baptised 20 Dec 1829.

In the 1841 census she is living with her parents (age incorrect on census).

In the 1851 census she is living in Ampney Crucis and described as pauper formerly Ag Labourer and visiting the Mustow family.

On 8 Feb 1856 she married William Ind (born 1819 Avening, Glos) in Quenington.

In 1858 she and William are living with her father Joseph Goodall in Quenington.

On 7 Jan 1858 she attempted to poison her father by putting arsenic in his tea (motive unknown).

She was tired and convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to death but told this would not happen and told the sentence would be penal servitude.

There was mention in an old newspaper article that she would be sent to Millbank Prison but for some reason that did not happen. She was originally held in Gloucester Prison and then transferred to Brixton Prison where she arrived on 22 Dec 1858.

Find My Past has prison records for her from Brixton Prison from Dec 1858 until 1872. On 10 Oct 1872 the record states “Released to the Russell House Refuge”. This is the term the prison authorities used but the correct name was the Westminster Memorial Refuge of the Royal Society for the assistance of discharged prisoners for Protestant woman.

I cannot find the 1861 or 1871 census records for her, I have tried initials and just the street address using Ancestry, IGI, GR and Find My Past.

I anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I am also looking for her death but have hit a brickwall.
hanks
