I would go with James Illegit. son of

It has been transcribed as Steril

On the same page -

Mary Lawrence has the same word and it has been transcribed as Hewzit

John Girling, same word again, but that one hasn't been transcribed at all

Yep, but what does it say in the forename column - James then ????????

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 24 Aug 2016 10:45

I think it just says ' James Illegitimate son of'

Edit

If you look further down the page there is a Mary dau of Elizabeth Lawrence and it has what looks like a middle name but I think it just says 'Mary Illegitimate dau of' :-(

Trying to decipher middle name of ancestor James Elsey
Baptised 9 Jan 1820 at Thorp Abbott, Norfolk.
Bishops Transcript image on FSO: England, Norfolk Bishop's Transcripts, 1685-1941 Norfolk Archdeaconry of Norfolk 1820
James was illegitimate but middle name MAY be father's surname, not an uncommon practice!
Any attempts at what it is welcome.
thank you
