The Wye family in Waterbeach,Cambs. I have notes on a William Wye born 1800, the 3rd child of Jeremiah and Sarah Wye. William married a Hannah Headland in 1821 and had 9 children. 6 sons and 3 daughters, their early life was spent at 14 Church End,Waterbeach. Their grandson,Alfred,born 1852 in Waterbeach,emigrated to Australia, arriving in Brisbane on the Zoroaster in 1874.

Alfred's middle name is Haylock and an unmarried mother was often known to give the father's surname as a middle name...

Note there is a George Haylock living at the same address......... Could this be Alfred's father???

The funeral took place on Thursday, the interment being in tho Methodist cemetery, Badgery's Creek.

Yewtree - try adding something like 'now in NSW' to your title - this will attract the attention of those on here who are expert in researching that area.

In the meanwhile, you could have a look at the site I mentioned above for NSW BMD's and try to trace the children down through their marriages etc.

Then you have more names to try to trace though newspapers, electoral rolls and telephone books etc. - You may just find someone who is still alive?

Thanks to everyone for their information re Alfred Haylock Wye, Although my surname is Wye, Alfred is not related to me. but I have a copy of the diary he wrote on his voyage to Australia, that I would like to pass on to a descendant of his. if they are interested.
