As far as I know, I don't think Ralph remarried. Perhaps Edith used her middle name and the second initial F should actually be an E?

That is possibly Frank. Perhaps I should try searching for him using the surname Lait.

Thinking back, I remember a family member telling me that Edith went by the name of May.

I have checked births Austin and there are no births registered for a William Laight in 1919. So you might be on to something there.
