Welcome to the boards Carol.

Although you've given years, you haven't indicated a region. Would this be in Scotland?

Hi Carol.
Have you any idea of location? The names sound Scottish maybe?
I assume you mean he was born McClean then changed to Armstrong after his mother married, but are you also saying he changed his 1st name too? Just to be 100% clear!

One only Malcolm McClean (as you've spelt it) birth in Scotland around that time showing on Scotland's People site.

If you buy credits for Scotland's People, this is the result you will get at the cost of 1 credit. A further 5 credits will allow you to look at and download the birth certificate (as it's over 100years ago) with all it's useful details . Credits cost £7 for 30

Yes, the marriage was in 1935 in the Blythswood district of Glasgow.
I won't post it, as you presumably already have it, as you know the exact date.

What is it you're wanting to know about Robert?
The birth record posted earlier by Greyghost does look like the most likely - there are other Malcolm McLeans born in Glasgow around those years, but he's the only one spelled McClean.
If you look at the image of the original document (as suggested by Greyghost) it will give you the exact DOB, as well as verifying parents/parents' names.

If you then let us know the exact DOB (if it's the right birth) , we'll have a better chance of finding him. There are lots of Robert Armstrongs, unfortunately.

Of course, if he wasn't born in Scotland, then the Birkenhead birth posted by safc looks good too, with mother's maiden name McLean.

Was Sarah your Gr-grandmother's "proper" first name? Do you know roughly when or where she married Mr Armstrong?

As has been said, there's no record of a Sarah Mclean (or other spelling) marrying any Armstrong in Scotland, England, or Wales 1915-35.

This is the only Robert Armstrong marriage to a Mclean during that period in the whole of Scotland:

1935 ARMSTRONG ROBERT
MCLEAN MARY URQUHART
BLYTHSWOOD GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/08 1554.

(Same place and year when Robert junior married Jessie, if that's of any significance.)
