The above lady, my great grandmother on her birth certificate is noted as illegitimate. Her mother Charlotte married Frederick Fairbrother in 1888 and I am trying to prove that he is the father along with a sibling of my great grandmothers Harriet H Evans 1876-1960. Any conclusions or ideas much appreciated, many thanks folks .

I don't think that you will ever be able to prove that he's the father if his name isn't on the birth certificate and they didn't marry until 7 years after her birth.

If the children were baptised there is a (small) possibility that the putative father may have been named in the baptism register.

I had one where the mother gave the father's name which was crossed out, but still readable, and the rather damning 'single woman' was written in the occupation column for her:-0

looks like Frederick was married before he married charlotte so I don't think he could be the father of maud ella

The only Maud E Evans, born 1881 in Cheshire, that I can see in 1891 is the daughter of Edmund and Maria Evans.

There's also a Maud Evans (no middle initial), born 1880, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth.

Don't see any living anywhere other than with parents.

EDIT: Aha! I've just noticed that Edmund is on the 1901 census posted earlier.
Perhaps Maud was sent to live with him and Maria?
