1899 – Fire in Hay Rick

Time and time again I have read of fires both in the home and on the farm, caused by children playing with matches. This was just one incident:

Charlotte Freeman who lived at Bone Mill on Trellack Farm, Hentland, spotted a hay rick on fire one morning. She immediately sent a messenger to the Wormelow Tump fire engine who charged to the scene.

Sadly, because there was little water to hand there was little that they could do and 25 tons of hay were destroyed. The hay belonged to Mr. Smythe of Trellack Farm, and fortunately he was insured.

The origin of the fire was found to have been caused by children aged 7, 5 and 4 who were playing with matches – they were found near to the fire with the incriminating matches in their possession.

You say,
"I have found a Emily Freeman married to George Jones"

Is this the marriage?

Marriages Dec 1895 (>99%)
Freeman Emily Ross 6a 1008
Jones George Clement Ross 6a 1008

I don't see her birth in Worcestershire - if that's her, maybe she was a widow when she married George.

But can't see a likely death of George before 1911.

What records have you found to suggest your Emily was born c1878?

The one in Hoarwithy in1911 was a lot older.

Long shot......................

Here is an Emily Jones living in Hoarwithy, which is a VERY small place, and she is a child's nurse and obviously has various children in her care:

She is a widow with no children of her own??

There are a couple of 'possibles' Sandra but we really need to know a little more about her please.

Was this her maiden name?
Did she ever marry and if so, to whom?
Did she have any brothers or sisters?
Do you know who her parents were?
How have you worked back to her through your family?
