Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 18 May 2016 02:53

I am kicking myself because I meant to ask sooner and forgot.

I am going to the Pimlico area in London on Saturday and two of my ancestors were born in Pimlico in the 1800s when my Greatgrandfather, James Woodford, a Stonemason, was obviously working there. The family came from Buckinghamshire and other family members were born in different places, presumably where the work took them but they ended up back in their Bucks village of Gawcott.

Harry was born in 1876 and Flora in 1872 in Pimlico, I'd love to know the address they stayed at. I'd love to know where GtGrandfather worked but can't see any way of finding out.

Coincidentally, of all the children born to James and MaryAnn, Harry was the only one to follow in his father's footsteps and they both worked on Liverpool cathedral, where Harry met his wife to be and stayed in Birkenhead. Haven't tracked Harry and family down sadly.

If anyone can find the info re Pimlico addresses I would be so grateful. Pm me please altho I will put this thread on Watched too

Thanks so much, Shirley, I 'll give you a hug on Saturday. Have been looking forward to meeting you.

I wonder if James was working on St George's Church. It must have been a bit of an undertaking in those days to uproot a family and take them off to a new place, with maybe the mother already pregnant with Flora.

Funnily enough I think it was Flora who ended up living in London when she was an adult and her granddaughter still lives there, if she is still alive. I must check out my info, it's all a bit of a muddle atm.

My grandfather Alfred was born later on, in Wendover, Bucks. Some of the family were born in Waddesdon, which is where the Rothchild family lived. There was a programme on recently showing the Manor house and the new Flint house. I think GtGrandfather worked on the Manor house according to a cousin of my Dad's who gave me lots of info and anecdotes before she died, bless her. Also some of the girls worked in service there. If I hassled my Dad for something he couldn't afford, he would always say 'who do you think I am, Rothchild?' I think it must have been a family saying lol

Thanks again, Shirley. It's too late to get birth certificate info now but if I do it later, maybe I'll get o.h. to visit the area with me for a few days and have a good look around.

See you soon, take care

Lizxx

My Dad's cousin, who incidentally was James' daughter Agnes' child, told me Harry married an Emily Jones whose family had an antique shop in Chester, but I have seen the Lizzie part before (same name as me I assume, Elizabeth?) and among the bundles of photos Mum left was a small pic of two young women, entitled 'Birkenhead cousins' According to Agnes' daughter Olive became a missionary and went to Kenya with her husband and two sons whe were educated at Kenya High school.
Poor Phyllis died driving an ambulance in Bristol, in the Blitz.

At least one of the sisters had to have a pacemaker fitted, it seems to be a recurrent theme in our family, with my cousin, Agnes' daughter, and Harry's daughter needing them.

Thanks again
Lizxx

Oh, I am wondering what Harry died of, he was quite young (53). Maybe it was the dust from the stone.
No sign of him in Liverpool or Birkinhead then?

Get his death cert. to find out.

Did you know that the officers mess at RAF Halton just up the road from Wendover was a Rothchild's place donated to the government. Never been in but said to have wonderful features, wonder what the date of it is? Your ancestor may have had a hand in that too.

Thanks all, especially Shirley, for all this info. Just being in an area my ancestors called home gets me emotional. When I went into Liverpool Cathedral knowing my Gt Grandfathef and Great uncle Harry worked on the building was very special.
