Thank you all for your input, certainly given me some pointers to look for.

Essie messenger was indeed Annie's Sister, should have spotted that one.

I will certainly be burning the midnight oil tonight.

Thank you again :-D

Sifting through the various dates and places given for him in all the records, I would guess this is George's birth:

Births Jun 1884 (>99%)
Tyler George Poplar 1c 618

Essie's maiden name was Oxborrow, not that it helps with the
search for George!
She was Eliza's daughter.

How about this death:-

First name(s) GEORGE
Last name TYLER
Gender Male
Birth day -
Birth month -
Birth year 1881
Age 63
Death quarter 1
Death year 1944
District SURREY NORTH WESTERN
County Surrey
Volume 2A
Page 549
Country England

Surrey North Western registration district covers Egham which is where they were in the 1939 Register.

Ages on death certificates can often be out by a couple of years. I definitely think the age on the 1939 Register is more likely to be correct. The marriage certificate age could just be a mistake.

This is Essie Messenger in the 1911 census (also in the household is Eliza Oxborrow as a boarder):-

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription

I think the age given for Eliza Oxborrow has been mis-transcribed and should be 50 as it says she has been married 30 years.

This is the same George as a visitor with the same couple in 1901:-

If the 1883 birth date on the 1939 register is correct then this could be a possibility for him on the 1891 census:-

Have you noticed Choccy's reply above, which suggests George was only about 26 rather than 46 when he married? Could you have mis-read the age?
Please give witness names from marriage cert.

Diane

I had considered a false fathers name due being born out of wedlock,

19 warwick avenue was the address I know they lived at i will look at the that again for the 1883 birth date.

Yes he is stated as a bachelor on the marriage certificate so yes 46 is unusual, i had considered maybe he had been an inmate!!

and i know 18 guildford street is not on the census i've done a house by house search..

Thank you all.

19 Guildford isn't listed in 1911 census.

46 is pretty old for a first marriage. Was he recorded as a batchelor?
Please can you give witness names, as they might offer a clue.

Which electoral register was he on in 1939? Will help with area for death.

It's also possible he didn't die between 1939 or 1945 but just that he and his wife were no longer living together.

I'm sure you are aware that the info on a certificate is only as accurate as the information given at the time. E.g. ages are often incorrect, as are father's names e.g. I have relatives that are definitely illegitimate that have a "fake" father's name on their certificates.

I'm trying to trace my Gt Grandad George Tyler.
I've Traced him from 1912 to 1939 Before that and after that Zilch.
I would presume no middle name or it would surely have been on the marriage cert. Staines, surrey area
I've obtained a copy of his marriage certificate which is dated 5th August 1912 married to Annie Oxborrow (Successfully tracked birth to death)
The certificate states that in 1912 he was 46 years old which gives his birth year of 1866c he was a bachelor who lived at 18 guildford street Staines Middx. He was a labourer in the the linoleum Industry. His fathers name was James Tyler and he was deceased in 1912.
I've checked the BDM for all Births between october 1865 and Nov 1866
I've checked Deaths from 1939 to 1945 (he was on the electoral register upto 1939 and Gt Nan was alone in 1945)
Census records to link him to James Tyler turn up nothing, i can presume maybe he moved from another area I suppose, but that will leave me with guess work unless i purchase all possible Births until i find the correct one but i don't know his mothers name.
Can anyone shed some light or give me some direction.
