Trying to find a birth or death for William Gray, who married Mary Blatch, daughter of Joseph Blatch, at Bowers Gifford, Essex.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the couple?

Name: William Gray
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 16 Oct 1809
Marriage Place: Bowers Gifford, Essex, England
Spouse: Mary Blatch
FHL Film Number: 0962531 IT 1

To find anything it would be helpfull if you could give an idea of dates.
Have you have found the couple on any census records this would help narrow down a death date?
What else do you know about them?

Thank you Catherine. I had the marriage and son, John but not the older children, so that's great. They had two more children, one of whom was my great grandfather. They're too early for the census but William must've died because Mary married again in 1832. I would like to find either a death certificate for him, or track further back to find his birth registration. I'm not very good at this and must thank you once again as you've been a great help.

you wont find a death cert or a birth registration for him as he was pre 1837 registration.

The best you can hope for is a church record of his baptism and his death

There is this one in Essex:-

England Deaths and Burials
Name William Grey
Gender Male
Burial Date 21 Jan 1828
Burial Place Braintree, Essex, England

.................but anything found would really only be a guess as he could have died, or been buried anywhere.

Re: Wiliam Gray
His other children were Samuel, born 1828 and Sarah, born in 1832, both in the Upminster area.
His wife, Mary remarried in 1837 and is listed as "widow". her husband was Reader Perrin of Dunmow and they married at St George in the East, Tower Hamlets.
I guess William would have died in the Upminster area, or in a London hospital.
Thank you Shirley. The 1837 registration date was helpful.
Thanks to all who have responded to this post.

If Mary remarried in 1832 then I would suggest that the child born in 1832 was probably not his but that of her second husband.

For future reference, when you post a thread it would be more than helpful to post all the information you have on the person you are looking into to make it easier for helpers to help you.

Here's the 1837 marriage:-

Name: Reader Perrin
Spouse: Mary Gray
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 1 Oct 1837
Parish: St George in the East
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Father Name: Reader Perrin
Spouse Father: Joseph Blatch
Register Type: Parish Register

......so she married as Gray, so why do you say that she also remarried in 1832?

So sorry, Catherine. In my excitement to find people responding I gave the second marriage date as 1832 in that post. I later referred to the same marriage as 1837, not realising my initial error.

As I don't seem to be very good at this I think I'll just try to find a way to do it myself.
Thanks to all who responded.
No need for any more replies :-(

Jacqueline,
My comments weren't meant to put you off they were only meant to be advise for any future postings you may wish to make.

When asking for help, it is always best to post as much information as you can, for example your original post gave no dates even though you know when she married and the dates of birth of their children.

If you had stated this information in your request the date of death of William would have been narrowed down straight away to between 1831 which is the date of conception of their last child and 1837 when Mary remarried.

Please don't stop posting there are a lot of excellent researchers on this site that would love to help you.
