Hi Maddie & Austin.
Thank you for your efforts - apologies for my disappearance for a while.
You have the right family. As you can see, info about Thomas is very limited.
The Thomas who died in 1957 was only 3 years old - I have his burial record. So def not mine!
I don't think I'll ever solve the Thomas Browning mystery, sadly.
Thanks for having a look for me.

Hi Austin, thanks for having a look.
New Inkleys was still around 1881.
Thomas was a navvy, so probably came to B'ham with his family for work rather than family connections, I was just doing a bit of straw-clutching! :-)

Thank you Maddie.

It's slightly complicated (isn't it always).

My ancestor is Thomas Browning, born abt 1812, place unknown. I know pretty much nothing else about him, apart from occupation and father's name. My only other plan of attack has been to look for other possible family members - the Browning name isn't nearly as common as it sounds!

By 1861 his wife was widowed. I have been looking for a possible death for Thomas, and have found a burial 1860 Birmingham. Obviously I do not know that this is my Thomas. The address given is New Inkleys. I suppose I was hoping against hope that other Brownings turn up - you never know do you!

Thanks again for looking.

I've just read:

Station StreetC4Named after New Street Station, built 1854. Previous road on the same site was named New Inkleys and before that Dock Alley.

http://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?6988-Old-Inkleys-Location

So perhaps your Brownings moved when the site was developed?

Having said that, I do see reference to New Inkleys in the newspapers after 1854, and it does come up on a search for 1861.

Hi all.
I wonder if it's possible for someone to search for an address in 1851 & 1861 please?
I don't have a number, just the name of the street, namely New Inkleys, Birmingham.
I am looking for surname Browning.
It's a very long shot, so please don't try too hard.
Thank you!
