PatinCyprus Report 24 Mar 2016 22:18

Granddad was in the Veterinary Corps looking after the war horses. He was a volunteer as he was 40 at the start of the of the war. He was wounded and sent home to recuperate hence my father's birth in 1916. Dad was to be the youngest of the family.

Granddad returned at the end of the war.

He died 2 weeks after his 50th wedding anniversary at 79 years old. I have photos of the anniversary. I was 4 and am the 3rd youngest grandchild. My sister is 2 years younger and made the party as a 2 yr old. My youngest cousin was born 4 years after granddad's death. She was the only 1 he didn't know. My grandmother saw all her grandchildren and was at the eldest's wedding. She lived another 9 years after granddad's death and lived to 82.

:-)

You are correct Pat. Just testing. Stands out to much not to be the 1808 marriage. Did your grandad make it back from the 1st ww.

Thank you for the baptism record Maddie. Yes that could be the 1808 marriage in the 1951 Census. Thrown a bit of a spanner in the theory Pat. Mary would have been 52 ish when giving birth to her son Jacob ?

It may well seem that Samuel Howes was married twice.

First to Mary Carter 2nd Dec 1794, and
then to Mary Needle 5th May 1808. As it is stated he is a Widower on the banns etc.

Could have there been any children from his first marriage?

Could anyone please help me in finding a marriage record for a Samuel Howes 1768 - 1829 and a Mary ???? 1771 - 1849. They had one child as far as I know William born 1811 possibly Kislingbury, Northamptonshire. On Marys death certificate it states that she was the widow of Samuel. Thank you in advance.

George
