out of interest, where did you find his death record?

Thank you to everyone for the information.

Found that Annie and Joseph had at least 1 daughter named Isabella Smith Duncanson b. in Partick 1927, which was the area Joseph and Annie married .
The name Isabella Smith being Annie's mother's name .

So checked for a marriage on Scotlandspeople and found one for her to William Mc Gowan Adair, the name Chris found, so Joseph must have gone to Australia after his wife's death to be with his married daughter.

Thank you all once again, there is a lot to go on.

I have no idea when Joseph went to Australia, I presume after his wife Annie died, I did find her death from scotlandspeople late last night.

I will take a look on the links you have given and see what if anything else I can find.

NSW bmds go upto 1986

SA bmds to 1972

VIC to about 1984

WA to 1971

I checked too - even the 'RYERSON INDEX' which has deaths up to present day.
Suggest you use the 'Ask a Librarian' service at 'NSW State Library' (on-line)-seeing that he was in NSW. They will trace him from last address you have -from electoral rolls (past & present).

This is a site where there are death notices taken from Australian newspapers. It covers all states. It is of course not comprehensive!

There are reports of 75 (!!) Duncanson deaths up until about 2007, but NO Josephs

bmd records in Australia are kept by State .............. I've just checked the NSW ones, but they only go up to 1986, and there is no death record for him up to that point.

Of course, he could have moved to another State

I looked at the Australian National Archives, which does shown the admittance of immigrants to Australia whether by ship or plane, but I couldn't see Joseph, although the records may only go up to the late 1960s.

Presumably Joseph flew to Australia, so there won't be any record available to us online. Some time between 1971 and 1980 - unless perhaps they had separated earlier?



There's no sign of Joseph having died in the UK, so it looks as if he must have stayed in Australia and died there.

Have you any idea when Joseph went to Australia???

I note that a family tree on ancestry says his wife died in 1971 ............... was that before or after Joseph left the UK?

I think this mist be him, on his marriage certificate in 1923 in Partick, Glasgow his occupation was ship's caulker.
