As he couldn't write, it's possible he didn't know how to spell his name. Leaving others to write whichever spelling they chose to use.

maybe you have to consider the fact that he was NOT born in London, but moved there?

Many of our ancestors often moved just as often people do these days ..... and London was "paved with gold".

Other trees on Ancestry suggest he was born in 1774 at Holy Trinity Clapham but I cant see the record

He was living in London from 1800. I'm not sure where he was born / lived prior to that. He is down as Fake on his second marriage, births of his children and his death. The marriage I posted the surname was Facke however I know records an be incorrect.

I'm trying to find out further details about a William Fake. I've done all the searches I can think of but haven't been able to trace his birth / parents. According to his death record he was born approx 1774 however unsure where. He died in Clapham in 1832.

He married a Sarah Jackson 18 Apr 1800 in Lambeth. On the record it states he was a widower however I haven't been able to find his first wife.

Can anybody help me?
