Kate Taylor is my Great Grandmother I am trying to find her parents. She was born in 1864, census from 1891 say she was born iin Saltaire, Yorkshire. Her marriage certificate in 1889 to James Edmund Barraclough does not give a fathers name.
I have tried to see if she was in a workhouse but don`t really know how to find inmates. Can anyone give me any ideas please.
Regards Kath

What about this one - no father is mentioned on the image and Ellen is a spinster:

Same girl in 1881 - I don't think the Tindall correction or the parents ar correct as it looks as if Elizabeth is married to William Tindall:

Mother:Elizabeth Tindall
Gender:Female
Where born:Shipley, Yorkshire, England

Elizabeth Taylor 64
William Tindall 39
Elizabeth Tindall 34
Kate Walker Taylor 17
Lilley Taylor Place 11
Harry Taylor Place 9

It could be I'll look into that, though she is only on marriage certificate as Kate, thanks for help.

The Elizabeth Taylor in the1881 did have a daughter Ellen (on 1861 census) who married a Henry Appleyard in 1869. They are on the 1871 together but I can't find Kate in that census.

Mary Report 2 Mar 2016 14:41

Witness on kate's marriage was Ashbel Lumb,a Ellen Taylor married August 1869 to Henry Appleyard born 1846 in Seacroft a witness was Ashbel Lumly/Lumb.

This Ellen was born 1847 Crossgates/Barwick in Elmet and lived in same area as Kate Barraclough.

Ashbel Lumb married Ann Taylor 1869.

TAYLOR Kate Bradford Yk 9b 184

Bradford covers Shipley which i think covers Saltaire?

Having the same witnesses on the certificates certainly links things up, and if Ashbels wife Ann is related to Ellen that's good, thanks for that.

Ellen's sister Elizabeth married George Place 14/4/1868 in Wakefield, witness's were Ashbel lumb and Ann Taylor and George Edward Walker and Sarah Walker.

I wonder if that is where the Walker as in Kate Walker Taylor came from??

Someone on Ancestry has Elizabeth as the mother of kate, but is Ellen according to Kate's baptism.

This is the GRO index entry Rose posted:
Births Mar 1864 (>99%)
TAYLOR Kate Bradford Yk 9b 184

Using http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk/ - this is the local index entry for the same birth:
Yorkshire Birth indexes for the years: 1864
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
TAYLOR Kate Shipley Bradford SHIP/17/77

As Rose said, the Shipley subdistrict does cover Saltaire
A look up of the 1881 census piece # rg11/4475 at
