Would anyone have any information, please, on a Charles Thomas Carr?

All I know about him is that he married my grandmother (Edith Mary Miller) in the parish church of North Woolwich on 2nd August 1919. He was 47 at the time, a widower. He gave his profession as seaman, his father as Thomas Carr (deceased) (also a seaman) and his address as 31 Manor Way, North Woolwich.

Thank you :-( :-(

There are quite a few Charles Thomas Carr records, but none so far with a father Thomas.

Who were the witnesses? May be we can track him that way

The only birth showing for a Charles Thomas Carr in England and Wales between 1868 and 1875 is this one.......

Births Mar 1873 (>99%)
Carr Charles Thomas Doncaster 9c 629

Parents George and Sarah..........so it's not him.

Dear DetEcTive and PricklyHolly

Thank you both for your replies.

Birth records - I agree - can't find him at all in all the usual places so I have come to think that maybe he was Scottish, Irish or from further afield. Possible, if he was a seaman, maybe.

Witnesses to the marriage: Richard Miller - who would have been the bride's father.
and Ethel Mary Ball.

Thanks again.

Hi Shirley

Thank you for your replies.

I am afraid I don't know where they lived after they got married, but assume it was for a while at least at the address listed on the wedding certificate in North Woolwich. I don't know if they stayed together but assume they did.

To explain this lack of information about my own grandmother - she was 32 when she married Charles Thomas Carr and it was her first marriage. My mother was born to her in 1911, illegitimately, and was adopted. I am tracing her natural family. The only other piece of information I have about her mother is that it is possible she emigrated, possibly to Canada. But again can't find any records to support this.

The Scottish record is well worth investigating so very many thanks.

Oh, yes, Gins - I thought that 1911 looked familiar!

I'd already posted it on the other thread.

Can't see anything useful re Charles, however, which is what Suzy's asking about this time.
