I'm wondering about this, whether Emily might have been married previously ? ( assuming she lied about her age later on ?)

Egleton Emily Staines 3a 25

Can't spot them on 1891 census?

What does anyone thnk about Emily's age? she gives birthplace as Winslow and there is only one Emily Egleton birth as far as I can see, it would make her 15 years older than she was claiming to be on census?

Thank you for your help. All the information that you have found out is what my father has told me, especially the info about Hanwell school and Charlie chaplin. I appreciate what you have done in one day that I could not do for a few years. I would like more information if it is possible. Kindest regards lesley

Walter, Harry and Frederick were all discharged on 19 January 1904 from the Newington Workhouse and sent to the Hanwell Schools

Walter, Harry and Frederick were transferred to Newington from Camberwell Union Infirmary on 16 Jan 1905

Walter and Harry were discharged from there to Hanwell on 8 Aug 1905

There are so many records for them, they seem to have been in and out of the workhouse, infirmary, and school!

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Jan 2016 05:35

oh dear ............ according to the London Workhouse Records, Emily E*gleton seems to have been in and out of the workhouse for years. Of course, she may have been in the Infirmary section

I think these are all the same Emily E*gleton

The 29th April 1903 entry is the most interesting. The following were all admitted together to the Constance Road Workhouse.....................

Emily Eggleton
Walter Eggleton
Harry Eggleton
Frederick Eggleton
female child Eggleton

Emily was in labour and the female child was born in the House

The family, including infant Florence Eggleton, were discharged at mother's own request on 25 May 1903

Emily and the 3 boys were admitted on 5 Aug 1905 to tje Newington Workhouse, Westmoreland Road. No reason given

Emily and Walter were admitted on 16 Sep 1905 to the Newington Workhouse, Westmoreland Road. No reason given

On and on it goes. Sometimes she is alone, sometimes she has the children with her.

from ancestry ............

this is the full name of the school where Harry and Frederick were students

Central London District Schools For Unions of City of London St Saviours Surrey, Christchurch Surrey, St Mary Newington Surrey and St George the Martyr, Surrey, Greenford Avenue, Hanwell

The first pages say there were 495 female and 505 males at the school

Children were apparently transferred to these schools from the Workhouses in the London Districts. As their mother was in the Newington Workhouse in 1911, it might be reasonable to expect that this is why Harry and Frederick ended up at Hanwell.

This link will give you some information on the CLD Schools, including some pictures from ca 1910 ....

Charlie Chaplin and his brother were at Hanwell in the late 1890s
