Yes Rose, lovely photo. It's taken after the wedding at the home of my great grandmother. It's still there...an end terrace/corner house. I like the servant peering through the window :-)

Yes Alisa, that's my nana.

Rose, the little girl on the right was my nana's sister, Isabella Adelaide Irvine born 1890..she really wasn't as sour-looking as in the photo :-)

Thank you Jude, it certainly looks like it is that period around 1900/02. The collar on one lady's jacket in your photo, is the same style as well.

Yes Rose, I thought she must be in her early 20's, which, if this photo was taken around 1902 would mean she was born around 1880, same period as John Henry McRae, who I think is a cousin to her or her mum.

I can't find the photo at the minute but one of my gt aunts is wearing virtually the same hat and looks like the same jacket judging from the large collar with edging, just rechecking her dob and as she was a teenager, just, in the photo it would make it 1905.

My grandmother had her hair up like that in photos taken just before her marriage so between 1900 and 1905.

I'd guess your lady is early 20s in the photo?

This is my grandparents' wedding in 1902...quite similar I would say so I think Rose is spot on!

Thank you, I'll have a look online and see if I can find clothes for that era. See if they match up perhaps.

Yes that's it Alisa,

Comparing it to photos I have of my gt aunts and grandmother, I would say it was about 1900?

I wonder if the Florence Charlotte mentioned here is the Charlotte in the photo?

"Alisa Report 11 Mar 2013 20:51
I wondered if anyone can help me.

I am trying to find out information on Mary Bean. She married John Mcrae. They had children - George, Alice, Elizabeth, Florence Charlotte, Catherine, Bertha, Henryetta, John Henry, Edith, James and Mary.

I would like to know who Mary's parents were, and it would be good if I could trace Mary's grandparents too, and when and where Mary and John married."

Alisa, do you have the means to upload
the photo to 'Keepsafe'? If so you could do that and post the link so that we could look as it is sometimes possible to date by the costume.

That's a good question, I don't know, which has made things difficult. I know she is part of both families line. Conway and Bean. I have quite a lot of information on both families now. It difficult to explain on here as its better if you can see the family tree to follow it.

What I am fairly sure of is she is a cousin (or second cousin maybe) of John Henry McRae (1881)
She may have had a daughter called Tamar. I have that name come up in my family tree but its with a different mother and father and that spelling is Tamah..

Possibly early 20's. Its difficult, in those days they could look ancient at 45! She looks young, but definitely not a child.
