My Irish Ancestors

George Rey/Ray/Reay in 1851 census gives his place of birth but original is a bit difficult to read, but as baptism for William John posted earlier shows his birth place as Inch, I'm wondering if it possibly the same?

I am also wondering if Edward and James Allison, with the family in 1851 (both noted as being from Ireland) are in fact relatives of Sarah and their names should be Ellison which would be the maiden name of Sarah, if the baptism prooves to be correct?

As they probably had a strong Irish accent, they wouldn't be the only ones to have their names misunderstood.

Just a couple of thoughts I thought I would throw in.

In the same grave as William Ray is a Sarah Jane Ray but she died 1835..you can request a photograh from the site.....

Lots of helpful hints on Irish searches on this thread on the Genealogy board

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/genealogy_chat/thread/951721

Do any of the later census for the couple show a birth county? Do you have a birth cert for child which gives mother's maiden name? You might be able to find parish records if you have an idea of county.

Keith Report 19 Jan 2016 15:38

I am trying to trace my Farther's Irish Ancestors.

1) I checked back to the 1851/1841 Census and found them to show that both William Ray (born 1810) and Sarah Ray (born 1815) were living at Talentire in Cumberland, they were married and originated in Ireland.
2) As far as I can tell they were both protestants (all of my family's ancestry points to this)
3) As these Census forms were very basic the only other information they showed was their ocupations.
4) I again am assuming that they were married in Ireland as I cannot find any marriage or church records relation to them in Cumberland.

My question now is what is the best way to move forward?
Is there a specific Irish Website I should be looking at?
I am open to any suggestions!

Thank you,

Keith
