Please would someone with Worldwide Ancestry do a death look up for
Thomas James Sewell b Birmingham England 29 Apr 1885.
According to Ancestry he died in Elgin, Kane,Illinois in 1939.
I have him on the US census in 1930 & all the details of his WW1 service & his travels between UK & US & have him on the US census 1920 living in Attleboro, Mass. He was a silversmith by trade.
Hopefully the death record will say whether he was married or not.
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks Gai.
If it was a Life claim, that would imply that someone related to him made a claim.
Maybe a wife or maybe his sister Annie in Canada who had been named as his next of kin when he went to war in 1917.
Who knows? But thanks for doing the look up anyway.

i've looked at the 1930 census image and there is certainly an M in the marital status column.

I haven't a great deal of experience in the US census but another member might be able to shed some light on their accuracy

Wisechild, the 1930 US census gives his marital status as married although he is not with family and in lodgings - do you have any inkling who he might have been married to?

ADDED: In response to Gai's comment about accuracy - well, they're about as reliable as ours are! It does say he was 39 years old when he married, so that would make the marriage c1925

Thank you all.
Uncle Tom was a bit of a mysterious figure to his family.
I was told as a child that he emigrated to Canada with his sister Annie (Eaton) & her husband in 1913 & was never heard from again.
From the records Ihave found, that is clearly not true.
I am just interested to find out if he did ever marry & to whom.
Had hoped the death record would give a clue, But unfortunately not.

Have you been able to find out what info would be on the actual certificate? It seems to vary from state to state.

This looks like him with the name of his wife listed. A man listed on the 1930 census is also listed in the same area as Thomas (see below)

Here she is. I wonder if J (on the directory info) was mistaken for May

Alice May Larsen
[Alice May Sewell]
[Alice Sewell]

SSN:018165618

Gender:Female

Race:White

Birth Date:28 May 1908

Birth Place:South Boston, Massachusetts[South Boston??, Massachusetts]

I wonder if they ever actually married and just co-habited. There is a tree that gives the following:

Name: Alice Sewell
Spouse: Hubert Sewell
Birth: abt 1909 - Massachusetts
Residence: 1935 - Newton, Massachusetts
Residence: Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts

Maybe this is a different Alice but I would think that the directory info is your couple
