Is it possible to see if any Kerr's were living in Scotts Close , Dalkeith (Scotland) on 1851 census. My 3x gt. grandfather William was living with his daughter Janet, as a pauper on 1851 census in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. He must have died between 1851 & 1855 when registration began in Scotland. I have found a William Kerr's death in 1852 at Scotts Close, Dalkeith. I have the death details from Scotlands People but does'nt give any info to tell me if he is my ancestor. Just wondered if he moved to be with another member of family to be looked after. Grasping at straws.
There are quite a few Kerr's in Dalkeith, alot of them my lot.
Thanks Hilary

Gray's Close, Donaldson's Close, North Wynd, Pursell's Close, Back Street, The Manse, Wilson's Close, and last (of course) Scott's Close. This is the only Scott's Close one -

Thanks greyghost. Looks like it was that William Kerr's death I found & not my ancestor. Don't think I will ever get back any further on my William.
Yes that is my family on 1851 census.

However, what about this one in the pre registration era - St Cuthberts is the area where he was on the 1851 census. Scotland's People credits will allow you to look at and download the details.
It's the one below the Dalkeith one on the list -

Hi greyghost, I have that image for that William in St Cuthberts, that one says his profession was Edinburgh Police. Says my William was a pauper on 1851 census so most likely in a paupers grave with no records. My only hope now is to try a trip to Edinburgh & go to the Library & see if there are any records of him receiving poor relief, can't find a beginning, marriage or end for him. Will keep trying all avenues.
Thanks
