In the 1911 census I have Charles Baker head aged 50 married 7 years with wife Emily aged 45 and three children. On the birth certificate of the youngest child Eric, his mother's maiden name is Stroud. |

That may be right Shirley. I did search for Charles Baker with just Emily's Christian name, but no luck there either. It's a puzzle. |

i wonder if this is Charles in 1891 - he's the only Charles Baker I can find b Sopworth on the census. Am not picking up in 1901 at the moment so can't follow through to see what's happening to the family later on. |

Hi greyghost. I think you may be on to something. I'm doing this research for a friend and I remember him saying now that Charles had been married before in Wales to a Julia, but he didn't know her surname. So thanks for solving that one. |

Maybe he was still married to Julia - or Emily to someone else. |

Thanks Malyon, I will need to check with my friend about the two census records you've discovered. I won't be able to contact him until next week so please don't think I've ignored you. |
