Having looked at the image - it says her occupation is "Nil" But there are Military people on board that ship listed for Gibraltar, who would probably have travelled on the first transport going in the right direction at the time, military or not, if they were needed.

Could be grey ghost, although I'd need to look at the image. Wouldn't she have been on a troop transport ship or are you suggesting she may have enlisted in Gibraltar?

Could she herself have "joined up" - all arms of the services had bases in Gib.

Gibraltar is a strange place to go, but with Sheerness having a naval/army connection she may have 'followed her heart'.
I had found the Mays 1939 entry but had no idea of the address. That's an added bonus.
