Hi All,

For those of you who are following this thread I have looked at the actual church marriage record and the ages are down as 22 years making his birth 1818 Also looked for a christening for Reuben but apart from the 1820 one cannot find one. I also looked for a maintenance order and the only one I could find says:

son born to Mary Clarke on 6 April 1817 at St Mary's parish Nottingham naming John Bradshaw a wharfinger of Nottingham as the father.
So is this child Reuben? but all census says Reuben born Bingham, I cannot find a christening for this child either.

I have sent Gerry a pm with a copy of the marriage.

It is not at all unusual for young children to start using their stepfather's surname.

Hi all

Thanks for your input.

I think the marriage of 1890 is probably one the original Reuben's descendants, but I am going to have to check it out.

Not much luck on Reuben's dad tho

Gerry :-)

Could the marriage certificate numbers be poorly written i.e. 32 for 22, wrongly written at the time and not noticed or wrongly transcribed. Have you seen the parish register itself?

Wendy on her Notts Archives thread may be able to look up the parish register for you if you're not in the Notts area

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1266434

She may also be able to look for baptisms.

Gerry

Gerry Report 6 Jan 2016 15:40

Reuben Sidney Clarke married Mary Brown 4/10/1840 at Bingham Notts. In all the Census both Reuben and Mary are shown as being born about 1820/1821.

However, the marriage cert says they were both aged 32 (1808). In addition, it also says Reuben's father is named as John Bradshaw!

Any thoughts?

Gerry :-)
