Don't forget...compulsary birth registration didn't come into effect until the mid 1870s. He may be one of tens of thousands born after 1837 who weren't registered.

Andrew. That was well spotted. It came up with marriage in 1876, but it was 25th December 1875! And George was 20 years old then. This would possibly mean he was born in 1856? (unless he was born between 26th December and 31st December?)

Thank you Margee. Nice to see you are a bit confused too!! LOL. This Poor Law Union is this a workhouse? If so the family seem to have been in 2 different ones. Still cannot see how to find out George's actual date of birth. You could well be right about George being illegitimate, this may explain why I cannot get a birth certificate for him.

Evidently Jeremiah was prevously married. The son is transcribed as 31 but I think it could be 21. However wife is only 33.

I am having trouble finding the exact year of birth for George Walker. He is my husbands Great Grandfather. He died on 15th June 1929. He was married to Jane Barham in 1881 (a copy of the marriage banns states that George's father was Jeremiah Walker, deceased). I am a bit baffled as to who George's mother is. It could be Susannah Agombar (or Agmobar), or Ann Green (Jeremiah having remarried, when possibly Susannah died in 1848). I also have a death date for Jeremiah on 27th April 1884, but think this may be a different one as George's Jeremiah had died in 1881! :-( I also sent of for a copy of George's birth certificate from GRO Passport Office, but had my money returned as they couldn't find a match! :-S :-S Any help would be appreciated
