David Report 2 Jan 2016 20:08

Looking for Emily Lancaster Walton supposedly born 27 September 1888 at Wandsworth parents were John Walton 1841-1896 and Emily Shaw 1848-1921.

She is mentioned in records when she was born, and when she went to school at Fircroft School at Tooting in 1894, her home address was 27. Mandrake Road she is not mentioned on any census returns her parents John and Emily were in jail when the 1891 census was taken serving sentences for forgery.

I have establised Emily's existance her middle name Lancaster was her Grandmother's maiden name, I also established that her Father John was living at Mandrake Road in 1894, he lived at Crawcrook Durham at the time of his death.

Yes William Shaw Walton was the eldest, the Granchildren were looked after by Grandmother Catherine Shaw in 1901 and 1911.

Also living Tranmere 1881.
And sister Florence for witness.

Emily's not with the Forbes family in 1901, however - but of course she would be at school in Tooting:

Looks like a positive lead.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 3 Jan 2016 13:36

David, do you know anything else about little Emily L eg did she marry or where and when she died?

David

David Report 3 Jan 2016 15:49

No more information after 1895 when she was at School and lived at Mandrake Road, her sister Pattie also attended the school in Tooting at the same time, it seems when their parents were in jail the children were staying with Grandmothers and various aunts.

She was never included in a census return for London or have I seen an entry for her death.

John and Emily's trial makes fascinating reading!

Very interesting, ArgllGran.

I see that Hugh Forbes and his wife Catherine Forbes nee Shaw also are mentioned in the case which I think confirms that the Emily Walton staying with them in the 1891 census is the right Emily.
