Would someone mind looking up the record for William Fentem c1802 on the Chelsea Pensioners Service Records on FMP please.

I put his name in on Familysearch and that was the result. I have been struggling to find a baptism record for him. I know he was born c1801 in Derbyshire and married Jemimah Waine at Youlgreave in 1822. I have details of their children and have them in census records. I have been unable to confirm his year of death.

I don't know if it is the same man in the Chelsea records but am interested to see what that record holds.

Thank you

Chris

The Jemima who married Arthur Williamson was the daughter of William c1831 who was the son of William and Jemima.

DetEcTive, I believe Derek tried to help me some years ago but unfortunately he couldn't find the baptism. Thanks for trying to help

The Military Records give his place of birth as Damfield near Chesterfield. This should probably read DRONFIELD

I did wonder if it should greyghost.

The spelling of the surname has also caused me a lot of problems, Fentem, Fentum, Fenton and also Fantom.

Thanks for your help.

A later page of the miltary record says Dronfield quite clearly.

It would appear he was discharged medically in 1834 at Clare Castle based on opinion of Principal Medical Officer, Dublin. Aged 32 at the time.
( so Ireland which would fit with wife Ann b Ireland on 1841/851 census perhaps)

EDIT - 1841 has him as a Policeman. There is a 15 year old Thomas on that census , a Gardener b Yorkshire

Thank you for the above info greyghost.

On census records Langley was once entered for Williams place of birth and I thought that may have been Kirk Langley and Mickleover (where he lived for most of his life) was entered in the majority of census returns.

I'm aware that there used to be a naming pattern, although I don't know what it was, and wondered if that may help in trying to locate possible family. It's interesting that the details you've given give Thomas and Mary as parents as William and Jemima had a son named Thomas. The children I have found for them are John, Ann, Eliza, William, Thomas, Emily and Jane.
