Amanda, when you put people in your tree they can be found when someone searches trees, even if they were born last year

'hide living people' only hides them from view when someone is searching your actual tree

I believe the rules have always been the same here ... living people may be included in trees only with permission

a way around that for your own reference would be, for example, to put 'William Briggs' as given names and enter no surname

that way the name would never be found by someone searching trees, since a surname must be entered to do a search

and that would avoid the possibility of someone searching their own name and finding themself in a tree, and being displeased by that as I was

Have you considered getting an offline tree? That way you can enter whoever you want without breaking on-line sites T&C.

The change in attitude, despite the likes of social media sites, it likely to have been brought about by the various Data Protection Acts.

Amanda easiest if you reply here than by PM

the electoral rolls are at Ancestry (maybe at this site too but I don't use this site for records)

I will save copies showing the three names and send them to you - it's a bit time-consuming so please just let me know first if you have access to Ancestry

if so, search for the three given names I mentioned above with surname Briggs and you will find the entries

actually, I'll PM you a copy and paste of the search results, that's easy, so you don't need the images
